Week 11: Self-Control as Spiritual Strength

Scripture: 2 Timothy 1:7
"For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline." — 2 Timothy 1:7

Devotional:

Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit that enables us to live disciplined lives, honoring God in our thoughts, words, and actions. It is not about sheer willpower but about surrendering our desires to God and allowing His Spirit to guide us.

In a world that promotes instant gratification, self-control helps us resist temptation, whether in our emotions, habits, or decision-making. It strengthens our ability to say no to what is harmful and yes to what brings life. This week, ask God to help you grow in self-control, knowing that through Him, you have the strength to make wise and godly choices.

Prayer:

Lord, I acknowledge that I need Your help to develop self-control. Strengthen me to resist temptation and guide me to make choices that honor You. Help me to live a disciplined life that reflects Your wisdom and grace. Amen.

Reflection Questions:

  1. In what areas of your life do you struggle with self-control?
  2. How can you invite God into those areas to help you grow in discipline?
  3. What is one practical step you can take this week to exercise self-control?
